This 2005 Ducati 999R is one of a limited number built to meet homologation requirements for the AMA and Superbike World Championship series. These were the range-topping version of the 999 lineup and carried an MSRP of $29,995 when new. Power is from a 999cc Testastretta L-twin
Finished in red over a matching trellis frame, the R model received a few subtle styling changes over the base 999 and 999S. Number plates are integrated into the tail section, and the side panels feature “see-through” badges, exposing the fairing’s carbon weave.
The 999R’s Testastretta 90-degree L-twin is a considerable departure from the base model, and displaces a true 999cc with an over-square 104mm bore and 58.8mm stroke. Output for the 2005 model year was 150 horsepower and 80 lb-ft of torque in stock trim. Various revisions were implemented by the factory, including the use of a sand-cast engine case, and titanium for the valves and connecting rods.
